Who is Harry Styles?

Harry Styles is an English singer, songwriter, and actor. Many of you probably know him as a singer, but he is, indeed, an actor. His musical career started when he went as a solo contestant on the British competition series, The X Factor. Although eliminated early on, he was brought again to join a new boyband, One Direction, which proved to be one of the biggest and very popular boybands in the world assembled by the famous Simon Cowell. One Direction consisted of five members: Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne.

Moving on, in 2016, One Direction went on a hiatus and then began Harry’s solo career. He cut ties with his old management team, Modest Management, and signed with public relations management team DawBell, and hired his friend Jeff Azoff to be his manager. In February 2016, he joined Jeffrey Azoff’s Full Stop Management and launched his own record label, Eskrine Records, in May while also signing a recording contract with Columbia Records.

His self-titled debut album, “Harry Styles,” was released in May of 2017 through the Columbia Records. The album’s epic lead single, “Sign of the Times,” was at the top of the UK Singles Chart and iTunes charts in over 84 countries on the day of release. Two other singles were also released, “Kiwi” and “Two Ghosts,” which did not receive the same success as the lead one.

In the same year, he co-wrote a song with Meghan Trainor, called “Someday” for Michael Buble’s album, Nobody But Me, which was released in October 2016. Harry was the face of the brand Gucci’s campaign in 2018. Later on, he made his way into the film debut in Christopher Nolan’s war film, called the “Dunkirk,” where Harry played an Allied soldier named Alex, who was a part of the Dunkirk evacuation in the World War II.

He acted in the film with a cast that included Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Fionn Whitehead, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy. Just for clarification, Harry beat more than a hundred other candidates who were auditioning for this part. Nolan said that he was not aware of his fame and chose him because he thought he was perfect for the role.

Harry also co-wrote another wrong with Jack Anotonoff and Ilsey Juber, “Alfie’s Song (Not so typical love song), which the band Bleachers performed for the film Love, Simon. After keeping his fans waiting for two years, Styles finally released his lead single, “Lights Up,” from his second album, “Fine Line” On 16th November 2019, Harry performed “Watermelon Sugar” on Saturday Night Live, while the single was released worldwide simultaneously, and performed Lights Up for the first time as well. He released another single, “Adore You,” on 6th December 2019.

Adore You’s music video was a story about Eroda, the fictional island where only he was the person who could smile among the sad population. Harry was supposed to go on his second world tour from April 2020, but it got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

His second album, “Fine Line,” was debuted at #1 in the US ad became the third best-selling album of 2019. On the release date of his album, he performed it at The Forum.

Random fact: Harry sang along to one of Stormzy’s anti-government songs, which sparked a minor controversy among people.
Harry ended 2019 by earning the number 1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200 albums. Moving forward to 2020, on 19th February, Harry confirmed “Falling” as the album’s third single by performing it at the 2020 Brit Awards. On 28th February, he premiered his music video for Falling, in which he was drowning while playing the piano.

Adore You was certified gold in the UK on 14th March 2020. Harry featured in an elaborate photo shoot with Creative Magazine Beauty Papers. Due to the COVD-19 pandemic, Love on Tour was confirmed to be postponed to 2021 on 25th March 2020.

Adore You was then certified as platinum in the US and reached #1 on US pop radio in April. Harry Styles is supposed to star in an upcoming psychological thriller film, “Don’t Worry, Darling,” which is directed by Olivia Wilde as a replacement of Shia Labeouf.

Family and Early Life

Harry Styles was born in Redditch, Worcestershire, England. He grew up in Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England, and went to Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School. As he mentioned in his 2010 X factor audition, he planned to study law and later revealed that he would have gone for law if his musical career hadn’t worked out.

Before going on X-Factor, he was the lead singer in the band White Eskimos which included Hayden Morris, Nick Clough, and Will Sweeny. They competed in a local Battle of the Bands competition and won, which helped Harry realize his passion for music and performing. And by his mother’s insistence, he went for his audition in X factor in 2010 when he was just 16 years old. He sang Isn’t She Lovely in his audition.

Before joining this boyband and began his long journey, he worked at a bakery when he was 14 years old. He has one older sister named Gemma Styles, who works as a freelance journalist, and step-siblings, Mike Twist and Amy Twists. His parents are Anne Twist and Desmond Styles, but they divorced, and Anne remarried to Robin Twists.
